Job Description

Job Summary:

  • Performs phlebotomy procedures for inpatients, outpatients, and walk-in patients.
  • Responsible for specimen collection, processing, and maintaining accurate documentation while ensuring quality patient care.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary collections (routine, STAT, timed).
  • Collect and process specimens ensuring accuracy and timely results.
  • Instruct patients on urine and stool specimen collection.
  • Maintain proper documentation and workflow efficiency.
  • Handle lab systems for ordering, tracking, and reporting tests.
  • Perform accessioning, registration, and specimen processing.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, and lab staff.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, infection control, and lab protocols.
  • Support training of new staff and students.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (Required),

Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year phlebotomy experience (hospital preferred).
  • Strong experience with difficult draws (transplant/donor settings preferred).
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment:

  • High-volume, fast-paced clinical setting.
  • Exposure to blood and biohazard materials.
  • Requires standing, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs.

  • May require weekends, holidays, or on-call based on department needs.
  • Must maintain strict patient confidentiality.
