Job Summary:

  • The Phlebotomist II – Float (Patient Services Representative II) serves as the frontline representative of the organization, providing high-quality phlebotomy services to patients in a professional and compassionate manner.
  • This role requires exceptional skill in collecting blood specimens, preparing them for laboratory testing, and ensuring accurate patient information while maintaining an environment of trust, safety, and confidentiality.
  • Float staff will support multiple locations as needed and must be dependable, punctual, and capable of working independently in fast-paced settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform accurate and timely specimen collection and processing in accordance with established procedures and safety protocols.
  • Draw high-quality blood samples from pediatric, adult, geriatric, and special-needs patients.
  • Create a supportive and reassuring environment by explaining blood draw procedures to patients and ensuring their comfort.
  • Verify patient identity and demographic information; obtain patient initials/signature to confirm correct labeling post-venipuncture.
  • Maintain proper documentation and required records for all collections and operational tasks.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational commitment, professionalism, and a positive attitude toward patients, coworkers, and the public.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and compliant work environment at all assigned locations.
  • Support forensic and clinical specimen handling, including chain-of-custody procedures when applicable.
  • Follow all company policies, including dress code, health & safety, confidentiality, and quality standards.
  • Travel as needed to various Patient Service Centers and in-office phlebotomy sites, sometimes with minimal notice.
  • Manage multiple priorities in a high-volume environment while delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, peers, and supervisors.
  • Adapt to schedule changes and support weekend, holiday, on-call, and overtime requirements.

Job Requirements:

  • Proven ability to deliver accurate, error-free work in high-pressure or fast-paced environments.
  • Strong phlebotomy skills, including pediatric, geriatric, venipuncture, and capillary collections.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal on-site supervision.
  • Flexible and available to accommodate varying staffing needs across multiple locations.
  • Must demonstrate excellent judgment, adherence to procedures, and integrity with patient information.
  • Superior customer service skills with the ability to maintain transparency, empathy, and professionalism.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license required; rideshare/bus drop-off is not acceptable.
  • Clean driving record required, as this role requires regular travel between sites.
  • Ability to adapt to changing environments, schedules, and workflow demands.
  • Keyboarding and accurate data entry skills required.

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Medical Assistant or Paramedic training preferred.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred (mandatory only in CA, NV, WA).

Experience:

  • 1–3 years of phlebotomy experience required, including pediatric and geriatric collections.
  • 2 years of Patient Service Center experience preferred.
  • Strong customer-service background in healthcare, retail, or service environments highly preferred.

Float Position Requirements:

  • Must travel between multiple sites and arrive on time for all scheduled shifts.
  • Mileage reimbursement available between assigned sites (not from home).
  • Must be dependable with excellent attendance—excessive absenteeism or tardiness results in termination.
