Job Summary:
- Responsible for performing phlebotomy and various technical, non-technical, and clerical functions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform venipuncture and capillary collections according to laboratory protocols.
- Follow proper identification and specimen handling procedures.
- Perform legal blood alcohol collections and limited CLIA waived testing.
- Utilize laboratory information system and electronic medical record.
- Enter and release laboratory orders and resolve sample identification issues.
- Contact patients for repeat draws as needed.
- Prepare specimens for transport to alternate laboratory sites.
- Perform EKGs, drug screens, breath alcohol testing, and spirometry as assigned.
- Maintain work area, stock supplies, and monitor expiration dates.
- Assist in training new employees and students.
- Complete maintenance and scheduled checklist duties.
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Preferred).
- Graduate of approved phlebotomy training program or accredited Medical Assistant program (Preferred).
Certifications:
- ASCP certification (Preferred).
Required Skills & Experience:
- Inpatient experience required.
- High-volume blood draw experience required.
- Minimum six (6) months related healthcare experience including direct patient contact.
