Job Description

Job Summary:

  • Responsible for performing phlebotomy and various technical, non-technical, and clerical functions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary collections according to laboratory protocols.
  • Follow proper identification and specimen handling procedures.
  • Perform legal blood alcohol collections and limited CLIA waived testing.
  • Utilize laboratory information system and electronic medical record.
  • Enter and release laboratory orders and resolve sample identification issues.
  • Contact patients for repeat draws as needed.
  • Prepare specimens for transport to alternate laboratory sites.
  • Perform EKGs, drug screens, breath alcohol testing, and spirometry as assigned.
  • Maintain work area, stock supplies, and monitor expiration dates.
  • Assist in training new employees and students.
  • Complete maintenance and scheduled checklist duties.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (Preferred).
  • Graduate of approved phlebotomy training program or accredited Medical Assistant program (Preferred).

Certifications:

  • ASCP certification (Preferred).

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Inpatient experience required.
  • High-volume blood draw experience required.
  • Minimum six (6) months related healthcare experience including direct patient contact.
